Petra Diamonds updates Angolan operations
by Jo Black
Further to the announcement of 19 November 2007, Petra Diamonds Limited (’Petra’) announces that operations at Project Alto Cuilo and Project Luangue (where Petra and BHP Billiton are in joint venture) have been resumed.
Petra Diamonds is a diamond mining group focused on the exploration, mining and beneficiation of diamonds in Africa. Petra’s strategy is to build a portfolio of revenue producing and exploration assets, as AIM’s first mid-tier integrated diamond group.
Petra has four producing mines in South Africa, has blue sky exploration operations in both Angola and Botswana and is near production in Sierra Leone.
Calibrated Diamonds now gives Petra the ability to cut and polish its own production; this production, exploration and beneficiation portfolio makes Petra well placed to achieve strong results in the increasingly robust diamond market.
Petra has two world class exploration projects in Angola, Alto Cuilo and Luangue. Exploration activities at project Alto Cuilo yield ever more exciting results; 75 kimberlitic occurences had been identified by drilling and highly encouraging diamond indicator minerals had been recovered which are comparable to other economic kimberlite deposits around the world, confirming the potential for Alto Cuilo to host major economic diamond deposits.
