The World Gemological Institute appoints first Far East Chairman

The World Gemological Institute (WGI) has appointed Rafael Aharoni as the institute’s first Chairman for China, Hong Kong and Macau.
The Israel based WGI, which is a nonprofit gemological research center and diamond grading laboratory, announced the appointment of Aharoni at the Macau Jewellery & Watch Fair held in Macau this week.
Rafael Aharoni is an honorary Chairman of the Gemological Association of Sichuan, PRC, Senior Advisor to the Asian Institute of Gemological Science and the former Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Gemology.
Aharoni, a fourth generation diamantaire, will lead an aggressive expansion plan for WGI in Hong Kong, Macau and the mainland, WGI said.
