Sarin Technologies triumphs in patent opposition proceeding
by Jo Black
Sarin Technologies, a world leader in diamond planning, processing, and grading technologies, announced today the Israeli Patent Registrar rejected OGI Systems’ opposition to its Israeli patent application No. 138347 entitled “Laser Marking on Diamonds”. Equivalent patents have already been granted to Sarin in the United States and in Belgium.
The decision concludes a four-year opposition proceeding which Sarin anxiously waited to see resolved. Since Israel is the headquarters and manufacturing center of both Sarin Technologies and OGI Systems, the decision is of great importance to both companies, because having its patent granted in Israel will allow Sarin Technologies to enforce this patent against all infringers in Israel.
After hearing the Patent Registrar’s decision, Zeev Leshem, Sarin Technologies CEO commented that we are thrilled to see the just end of this prolonged proceeding. Sarin Technologies invests heavily in research and development and must actively protect its intellectual property in order to remain competitive and add value to our customers’ businesses and to our shareholders.
The patent registrar’s decision also awarded Sarin Technologies costs and legal fees, to be paid by OGI Systems. According to Israeli Patents Law, OGI may now appeal the decision to the District Court.
We believe that following the dismissal of OGI Systems’ opposition, the patent will be finally granted to Sarin. It will protect, also in Israel, a wide range of our innovative technologies in the field of rough planning and laser-marking products and will put an end to the infringing manufacture and sale, in Israel, of our competitors’ products that attempted to reap the success of our best selling products in the DiaMark™ family, concluded Leshem.
