HRD Antwerp NV, which provides grading, gemmological, educational, technological and research services to the international diamond and jewellery industries, will highlight its presence at the Istanbul Jewellery Show later this month with a seminar for trade show attendees about synthetic diamonds and diamond simulants.

The Istanbul Jewellery Show, which opens on March 26 and runs through March 30 at the Istanbul Expo Centre, will feature more than 1,000 exhibitors. HRD Antwerp will exhibit at booth 8616-21 in Hall 8.

A seminar, which is entitled “Synthetic and treated gem diamonds : present status” will be held on Friday, March 26 at 2:00 PM at the Istanbul Expo Center, Palmiye Meeting Room 1st floor Hall 2-5. It will be presented by Dr. Katrien De Corte, a senior Research Scientist and Head of HRD Antwerp – Education.

The Turkish jewellery industry is an increasingly prominent player on the world market, and one that we are keen to play a role in. Not only is it an important jewellery manufacturer in its own right and also an important distribution hub in the region, Turkey also is a market with tremendous potential. The Turkish trade needs to be kept up to date of development in the business, and it is for this reason that we are presenting our seminar, said Georges Brys, General Manager of HRD Antwerp.

In the past Turkey has been known mainly as producer of gold jewellery, and in fact currently is the world’s third largest producer of gold jewellery after Italy and India. But it also is home to fast growing diamond market. Indeed, plans are in the works for the establishment of a fully fledged diamond bourse in Istanbul.
