Diamonds North provides updates

by Jo Black

Diamonds North Resources Ltd. announces that mineral chemistry data just received confirms the high diamond potential of the Tuktu-1 and Qavvik-4 kimberlites. Tuktu-1 and Qavvik-4 are two of 22 kimberlites discovered to date on its 100% owned Amaruk property located in the Pelly Bay Diamond District of Nunavut. Mineral chemistry data is pending for other high priority Tuktu and Qavvik kimberlites.

Since working at Ekati, I have not seen a kimberlite with this quality of mineral chemistry and microdiamond data, says Mark Kolebaba, President and CEO. Tuktu-1 and Qavvik-4 clearly warrant bulk sampling.

Mineral chemistry in conjunction with microdiamond data is used by the Company to evaluate the diamond potential of a kimberlite. The initial microdiamond results for the Tuktu-1 kimberlite contained very high diamond counts, and now the mineral chemistry corroborates the importance of this kimberlite. High interest mineral chemistry observed from the Qavvik-4 kimberlite also supports microdiamond data previously recovered from this body.

Mineral Chemistry and microdiamond data used in tandem is proving to be a very effective and important tool for evaluating kimberlite on Amaruk. Individual kimberlites in large kimberlite fields may vary in diamond content from barren to highly diamondiferous. Kimberlites like Tuktu-1 and Qavvik-4 that exhibit high microdiamond counts also exhibit supporting mineral chemistry, suggesting that they are very high quality targets requiring bulk sampling. Conversely, a kimberlite with low microdiamond counts, such as Umingmak-2 exhibiting corresponding low potential mineral chemistry can confidently become a low priority exploration target. This allows the Company to focus its resources on the best opportunities.

Diamonds North has discovered 22 kimberlites to date on the Amaruk property. More than 90% of the known kimberlites are diamondiferous and 50% exhibit diamond counts that require follow-up exploration. At least 500 compelling geophysical targets remain to be tested on the property.
